Profile

Prof. Tigau has a PhD in Political and Social Sciences (2007) and a Master in Communication (2004) from UNAM. She has studied journalism and communication at the University of Bucharest (Romania), the Journalism Schools of Utrecht (Holland), and Aarhus (Denmark).

Since has been associated with CISAN since 2009, working on skilled migration and diaspora diplomacy. She teaches at undergraduate and graduate levels at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences, UNAM.

She coordinates the PAPIIT IN 302324 collective project, “Communication and diplomacy of diasporas. Perspectives from the reception contexts in the Americas, Europe, and Asia¨ (2024 – 2027), supported by DGAPA/UNAM.

She was a visiting researcher at the Global Migration Lab, Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, University of Toronto (2022-2023), the Baker Institute for Public Policy, Rice University, Texas (2016-2017), and the University of York, Canada (2010). She participated in the Chair of Studies on the Americas, a collaboration of the University of Montreal, the Institute for Social Research, and CISAN (2021-2023).

She represents CISAN in various international and national forums. She is vice president of the Global Research Forum on Diasporas and Transnationalism (India); co-coordinator of the International Relations Track of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA, 2023-2024); co-coordinator of the event organization group of the University Seminar for Studies on Internal Displacement, Migration, Exile and Repatriation (SUDIMER) at UNAM.

She is a National System of Researchers member, level II and has PRIDE C. In 2022, she received the Son Juana Inés de la Cruz Award from UNAM.

Her work includes books and articles on skilled migration and science diplomacy topics.
