Profile

María Cristina Hall is a research associate studying migration at the National Autonomous University of Mexico’s Center for Research on North America (CISAN, UNAM). With a regional perspective, she studies the paradoxes of US immigration policy, in which cruelty and migratory restrictions are put at the service of electoral and political interest, even though immigration is essential to the US economy.

She has a Ph.D. in political and social sciences from UNAM and a master’s in translation studies from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona). At Columbia University, she earned a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and political science (magna cum laude).

She has taught at universities including Tec de Monterrey, Universidad de Guadalajara, and Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

She enjoys writing and translating. At CISAN, she contributes regularly to Voices of Mexico.
